An online whiteboard that turns workshops into issues
Brainitive whiteboards are an endless canvas for diagrams, retros and brainstorms, built on Excalidraw. Your team draws together in real time and starts from ready-made templates. When the workshop is done, you turn the sticky notes into real issues on your board.
Whiteboards
Brainitive whiteboards are an infinite Excalidraw canvas where your team draws together in real time and connects the result to real work. Sticky notes become board issues with one action, and issue cards on the canvas show their live status.
- Start from six templates: Retrospective, Roadmap (Now, Next, Later), Brainstorm, User story map, Flowchart and SWOT. Add a template to an existing whiteboard at any time.
- Draw together with named cursors and avatars. If your connection drops, keep drawing; your changes merge when you are back.
- Whiteboards save automatically a few seconds after every change. History keeps checkpoints at least every 30 minutes while you edit, and you can preview and restore any of them.
- Select sticky notes and choose Create from selection to turn each one into an issue on a board you pick. The stickies then become live issue cards coloured by status.
- Add existing issues as cards, and linked issues list the whiteboard under Referenced by. Project editors and admins draw; viewers can pan, zoom and watch live changes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn sticky notes into tasks?
Yes. Select the sticky notes, click Issues → Create from selection and pick a board. Each sticky becomes one issue, in the board's first column or in the backlog on a Scrum board. The stickies then turn into live issue cards on the whiteboard.
Can several people draw on the same whiteboard at once?
Yes. Shapes, sticky notes and images appear for everyone right away, with a named cursor for each person. Avatars show who is drawing with you. People with view access see the live drawing but can't change it.
Does the whiteboard have templates for retrospectives?
Yes. The Retrospective template gives you columns for Went well, To improve and Action items with sticky notes. Other templates are Roadmap, Brainstorm, User story map, Flowchart and SWOT.
Can I go back to an earlier version of a whiteboard?
Yes. Click History to see checkpoints, which are saved when you save and at least every 30 minutes while you edit. You can preview any checkpoint read-only and restore it.
Can I put a drawing inside a document?
Yes. Use the Excalidraw slash command in a doc to insert a drawing right into the page. Whiteboards and docs can also be kept together in the same project folder.
Are whiteboards free?
Yes. Every feature is in every Brainitive Cloud plan, including Free, which allows up to 3 members and 5 projects per workspace. Whiteboards are unlimited in every plan. Brainitive is also open source, and you can self-host it.
