Connect Claude, ChatGPT and your terminal to your projects with MCP

Brainitive has a built-in MCP server, so AI assistants can read and update your issues, docs, sprints and plans as you. Inside the app, an AI writer uses the provider your workspace chooses. And the brainitive CLI brings the same tools to your terminal and to local AI agents.

AI agents (MCP)

Brainitive runs a remote MCP server at https://www.brainitive.app/mcp, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and other MCP clients can work in your workspace. You sign in with OAuth, so there are no API keys to create or paste.

  • 71 MCP tools cover navigation and search, docs, boards and issues, comments, sprints, Gantt plans, task lists, snippets, bookmarks, the capture inbox and connected calendars.
  • Project setup tools create workspaces, projects, board columns, labels, issue types, priorities, custom fields and members, and create_board_items adds up to 100 issues in one call.
  • Hand an AI a Jira, Trello or Asana CSV export and it can propose a mapping, wait for your go-ahead, then build the project and import the issues in batches with parents and sub-tasks kept together.
  • The assistant acts as you. It only sees and changes what you can access, its changes show up in the issue history, and every write returns a link to the item.
  • Self-hosted instances run their own MCP server at their address plus /mcp, with nothing to switch on. You can review and disconnect apps under Profile settings, Connected apps.

In-app AI

The AI writer in docs and issues uses an AI provider your workspace chooses, with your own key. It knows your project's name and description, so its answers fit your project.

  • Works with any OpenAI-compatible API, for example OpenAI, OpenRouter, Azure or a local Ollama or LM Studio server. The key is stored encrypted and never sent to the browser.
  • Editor actions include Improve writing, Fix spelling and grammar, Make concise, Make formal, Simplify language, Summarize and translations. You see the result first and choose Replace or Retry.
  • Generate prompt turns an issue or a doc into an implementation prompt for a coding assistant.
  • The project assistant can summarize the project, draft a task or write an implementation prompt from the project description.
  • Meeting notes to issues suggests action items with the source sentence, an owner from the project members and a due date. You review and create only what you want, and duplicates are marked.

Command line (CLI)

The brainitive CLI is one file for macOS, Linux and Windows that brings your workspace to the terminal. It talks to the same MCP server as Claude and ChatGPT, so every server tool is one command away.

  • Install on macOS or Linux with curl -fsSL https://github.com/armendzekjiri/brainitive/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh, or on Windows with irm https://github.com/armendzekjiri/brainitive/releases/latest/download/install.ps1 | iex. brainitive update upgrades in place.
  • brainitive login opens your browser for OAuth sign-in, for Brainitive Cloud or your own server with --server. Scripts and CI can use the BRAINITIVE_SERVER and BRAINITIVE_TOKEN environment variables.
  • Everyday commands capture notes to your inbox, create and move issues (with a screenshot if you like), add tasks, snippets and bookmarks, read and create docs, and search everything. Add --json for scripts.
  • brainitive tools lists the full MCP tool catalogue, and brainitive tool runs any of them, including the project setup tools.
  • brainitive mcp runs a local MCP server that forwards to your account, for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and other tools that only know local servers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Brainitive have an MCP server?

Yes. Brainitive has a built-in remote MCP server at https://www.brainitive.app/mcp with 71 tools for issues, docs, sprints, Gantt plans, task lists, search, calendars and project setup. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so you don't need an API key. Self-hosted instances run their own MCP server at their own address plus /mcp.

How do I connect Claude to my project management tool?

In Claude, add a custom connector and enter https://www.brainitive.app/mcp as the server URL. Claude sends you to Brainitive, where you sign in and approve the access. From then on Claude can search, read and update your issues, docs, sprints and plans, but only what you yourself can access. In Claude Code, you can also run claude mcp add brainitive -- brainitive mcp with the Brainitive CLI.

Can ChatGPT create and update issues in Brainitive?

Yes. Add Brainitive as a custom connector (MCP server) in ChatGPT and approve the sign-in. ChatGPT can then create, update, move and comment on issues, plan sprints and write docs. Every change shows up as yours in the history, and ChatGPT gets a link back to each item it creates or changes.

Can an AI migrate my Jira project into Brainitive?

Yes. Give Claude or ChatGPT your Jira, Trello or Asana CSV export and ask it to bring the project into Brainitive over MCP. It proposes a mapping of statuses to columns, issue types, priorities, custom fields and members, then creates the project and imports the issues in batches after your go-ahead. For a plain import, the built-in Jira, Trello and Notion importers are also available.
