A team wiki and docs that stay connected to the work
Brainitive docs are your project's wiki for specs, meeting notes and how-tos. You write together in real time on a calm, full-width page, drafts stay private until you publish, and every published version is kept. Smart links and backlinks connect each doc to the issues, tickets and plans it talks about.
Wiki & docs
Brainitive docs work as a project wiki with a draft and publish workflow: you write a draft, publish it for the project, and every published version is kept so you can restore it. Readers always see the published version while you edit.
- Organize docs in a tree with subpages and folders, and give each page an emoji or an uploaded image as its icon.
- New docs are drafts that only you and project admins can see. Update publishes your changes, optionally with a change note and a notification to watchers.
- Page history lists every published version. Preview any of them and restore it.
- Export a doc as Markdown, HTML or PDF, duplicate a doc with or without its subpages, or share a read-only link that can expire after 1, 7, 30 or 90 days.
- Import pages from Notion (Markdown and CSV export): folders, links between pages, images and files come along, and databases become tables.
Live co-editing
Live co-editing lets several people write in the same doc at the same time, with everyone's cursor and name visible and changes appearing instantly. It keeps working when the connection drops and merges your changes when you are back.
- You edit the doc's draft together. Readers see the new version only once someone publishes it.
- If you lose the connection, keep writing. Your changes are kept on your device and merged when you reconnect.
- If live editing can't be reached, you can keep editing on your own.
- Issue descriptions can be written together the same way.
- On a self-hosted install, live editing uses Brainitive's realtime service. Without it, docs still work, just without the live parts.
Rich editors
The Brainitive editor gives you tables, code blocks, equations, embeds and more through slash commands, so you can write structured docs without leaving the keyboard. Type / on an empty line to insert any block.
- Blocks include headings, lists, checklists, quotes, code blocks, tables, columns layouts, collapsibles, sticky notes, equations, Excalidraw drawings and polls.
- Embed YouTube videos, Figma documents and posts from X. Embeds load only after a click, so nothing is sent to those services until you choose to.
- Select text for a floating toolbar, or switch to the classic formatting toolbar. Type @ to mention a teammate.
- Polls let every reader vote without entering edit mode, one vote per person.
- The AI writer in docs and issue descriptions uses your workspace's own AI provider.
Document review
Document review lets you ask teammates to check a draft before you publish it. Reviewers comment on selected text and then approve the draft or request changes.
- Request a review from the doc's ⋯ menu, pick reviewers from the project and add an optional message. Reviewers get a notification.
- Comments sit as threads next to the text they refer to. They can be answered, resolved and reopened.
- A review is a snapshot of the draft. If the author edits the draft afterwards, the review is marked outdated and a new review can be requested.
- Turn on Review required before publish to block publishing until the current draft is approved.
Smart links
Smart links show a Brainitive issue, doc, ticket or plan inside a doc as a live chip or card, with its title, status, due date and assignee. They update by themselves, so your docs don't go stale.
- Paste a Brainitive link, type /link and search by title or key, or use the + next to a block.
- Show each link inline as a chip, as a larger card, or as a plain link.
- Smart links also work in issue descriptions.
- The linked item lists your doc under Referenced by. People who can't open the linked item see Restricted instead of its title.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Brainitive as a team wiki?
Yes. Docs are organized as a tree of pages and folders inside each project, with a draft and publish workflow and a full version history. Smart links and backlinks connect pages to the issues, tickets and plans they describe.
Can several people edit a document at the same time?
Yes. Several people can edit the same doc at once, and everyone's cursor shows with their name. If your connection drops, you can keep writing and your changes are merged when you are back online.
Can I import my pages from Notion?
Yes. Export a Notion page or workspace as Markdown and CSV with subpages, and upload the ZIP. Pages, folders, links between pages, images and files come over, and Notion databases become tables. Everything arrives as drafts, so you can check it before publishing.
Can I see and restore older versions of a document?
Yes. Page history lists every published version, and you can preview and restore any of them. On Brainitive Cloud, how long old versions are kept depends on the plan: 7 days on Free, and forever on Team and Business.
Can I require approval before a document is published?
Yes. Turn on Review required before publish in the doc's menu. The doc can then only be published once a reviewer has approved the current draft.
Is the wiki included in the free plan?
Yes. Every feature is in every Brainitive Cloud plan, including Free, which allows up to 3 members and 5 projects per workspace. Docs are unlimited in every plan, within the plan's storage. Brainitive is also open source, and you can self-host it.
