My Work: everything on your plate, in one view

My Work collects the issues and tasks assigned to you from every project, so you don't have to open each board to know what's next. Plan today with My Day, log focused time on the issue, and capture ideas with one key before they slip away. Search, snippets and bookmarks keep the rest within reach.

Quick capture

Quick capture is a private inbox for ideas: press C anywhere in Brainitive, type the idea, and decide later whether it becomes a card, task, doc, bookmark or snippet.

  • Press C anywhere in the app (when you're not typing), click the capture button in the top bar, or tap the round button on a phone.
  • Add an optional link and source, such as a call with a client. Markdown and code blocks are kept.
  • Captures land in your private Captures inbox, with Inbox, Processed and Archived tabs and a search box. Only you can see them.
  • Organize turns a capture into a board card, task, doc, bookmark or snippet, with an editable preview. Clicking twice never creates two items.
  • Quick capture works offline, and the browser extension can save the page you're on to your captures.

My Day & focus timer

My Day is your plan for today: pick issues and tasks from any board or list, put them in order, and start a focus timer that logs the time on the issue when you stop.

  • Click the sun icon on any issue or task to add it to My Day, then drag items into the order you want to work on them.
  • Planning never changes a task. Its status, due date and assignee stay as they are.
  • Unfinished items don't come back on their own. Click Bring over unfinished when you want yesterday's leftovers on today's list.
  • The focus timer shows in the top bar on every page and keeps running across tabs and devices. Only one timer runs at a time.
  • When you stop the timer, you check the time worked, date and note, then log it to the issue or discard it.

My Work

My Work is one list of every board issue and list task assigned to you, across all your workspaces and projects, so you see what's due without opening each board.

  • Items are grouped by project and show the board or list they come from, their status, priority and due date.
  • Switch between Assigned to me and Created by me to follow work you handed to someone else.
  • Narrow the list with the All, Today, Overdue and This week tabs.
  • Click the circle in front of a row to mark it done, and click again to reopen it.
  • My Day sits at the top of My Work, and the browser extension can keep My Work open in its side panel.

Task lists

Task lists are simple to-do lists inside a project for work that doesn't need a full board: type a task, press Enter, and add a due date, assignee, repeat or reminder in one click.

  • Tasks can have a due date and time, a start date, an assignee and notes with links or a checklist. Overdue tasks are red, tasks due today are amber.
  • Repeat a task every day, week, month or year. Ticking it off moves the due date to the next time.
  • Reminders arrive at the due time, 10 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day before, in the notification bell and as a browser notification.
  • A morning summary at 8:00 your time lists the tasks due today or overdue. You can turn it off in your profile.
  • Lists work offline. Project editors and admins add and edit tasks, and project admins delete lists.

Command palette

The command palette opens with ⌘K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux, and lets you search, jump back to recent items and run commands without leaving the keyboard.

  • With nothing typed, it shows what you opened recently, plus navigation and create commands.
  • Type to see the best matches, with results from your current project first. See all results opens the full search page.
  • Type > first, or press Ctrl+., to see commands only: go to My Work, Calendar or Inbox, switch workspace, create an issue, page, snippet or bookmark, quick capture and help.
  • Entries you hide from the sidebar stay reachable through the palette.
  • Use the arrow keys to move, Enter to open and Esc to close. On a phone, tap the search field at the top.

Find anything

Brainitive search finds issues, docs, comments, helpdesk tickets, list tasks, plans, snippets, bookmarks, your captures and attached file names in one ranked, typo-tolerant search.

  • Tabs split the results by type with counts, and filters narrow them by project, status, assignee (including Assigned to me) and last update.
  • Type an issue key like WEB-12 to jump to it, use quotes for an exact phrase and a minus sign to exclude a word. Small typos still find the right result.
  • Filters live in the page address, so you can bookmark or share a search. Press / to jump into the search field.
  • You only ever find what you are allowed to open. Other people's private drafts never show up.

Snippets

Snippets are reusable pieces of text and code, such as configs, commands, SQL queries or email templates, kept in searchable collections with syntax highlighting.

  • Group snippets in collections that are private or public, and give each snippet a title, a language and its content.
  • Languages include plain text, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, PHP, Bash, SQL, HTML, CSS, JSON, YAML and Markdown.
  • Copy a snippet with one click, or copy the share link of a public snippet or collection.
  • Create snippets from ⌘K, from a quick capture, or by selecting code on any web page with the browser extension, which detects the language.
  • Snippets live at the workspace level. Workspace editors and admins add, change or delete them.

Bookmarks

Bookmarks keep the links, files, notes and to-dos your team keeps coming back to in collections, with link previews fetched for you.

  • Add a link, a file up to 200 MB, a note or a to-do you can tick off. Paste with Ctrl+V or ⌘V on a collection page, or drop files onto it.
  • Collections are private, or shared so that anyone with the link can view them read-only.
  • Invite workspace members to a private collection as viewer or editor, and change or remove them at any time.
  • Save the page you're on to a collection with the browser extension, or create a bookmark from ⌘K or a quick capture.
  • Bookmarks are included in search.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see all tasks assigned to me across projects?

Open My Work in the sidebar. It lists the board issues and list tasks assigned to you from all your workspaces and projects, grouped by project, with status, priority and due date. Use the Today, Overdue and This week tabs to narrow it down.

Does adding a task to My Day change its due date?

No. Planning a task into My Day never changes its status, due date or assignee. My Day is only your personal order of work for today, and unfinished items stay off tomorrow's list until you bring them over.

Can I track time with the focus timer?

Yes. Start the focus timer on an issue in My Day and stop it when you're done. Brainitive then asks you to check the time worked, date and note, and logs it on the issue. The timer keeps running across tabs and devices, and only one runs at a time.

Can I use task lists with repeating tasks and reminders?

Yes. A task can repeat every day, week, month or year, and ticking it off moves its due date to the next time. Reminders can fire at the due time or 10 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day before, and a morning summary at 8:00 lists what is due today or overdue.

What does Brainitive search find?

It searches issues, docs, comments, helpdesk tickets, list tasks, plans, snippets, bookmarks, your own captures and the names of attached files. Search is typo-tolerant, supports exact phrases and excluded words, and only shows what you are allowed to open.

Are My Work and quick capture included in the free plan?

Yes. Every feature is in every plan, including Free, which allows up to 3 members and 5 projects per workspace. Brainitive is also open source, so you can self-host it on your own server.
