Import from Trello, Jira and Notion, and take your projects with you
Moving to Brainitive starts with the export file you already have. Upload it, check the preview and map statuses, types and people before anything is created. When you want to move again, export a whole project as one ZIP and restore it here or on another Brainitive.
Import from Trello, Jira & Notion
Brainitive imports Trello boards (JSON), Jira issues (CSV) and Notion pages (Markdown and CSV), and shows a preview where you map statuses, types and people before anything is created.
- Trello: lists become columns and cards become issues in the same order, with descriptions, due dates, labels and checklists. Checklist items can stay in the description or become subtasks.
- Jira: statuses, types, priorities, epics and sub-tasks, labels, sprints, links between issues, story points and comments come over to a new board.
- Notion: pages and folders arrive as drafts with links between pages, images and files, and databases become tables.
- Map columns, the Done column, labels, types, priorities and people to project members. Nobody is invited, and unmapped work stays unassigned.
- The import runs in the background and lists anything it couldn't bring over under Not imported. If it stops halfway, Retry continues without creating duplicates.
Project export & restore
Project export downloads a whole Brainitive project as one ZIP file, which you can restore as a new project on the same server or on another Brainitive, for example when you move from Brainitive Cloud to your own server.
- Included: boards, issues with subtasks, labels, custom fields, comments, attachments and links, plus docs, folders, whiteboards, task lists, plans, releases, sprints and the helpdesk structure.
- Not included: members and roles, helpdesk tickets and contacts, leads, time entries, history, integrations, webhooks, automations and share links. The file lists what was left out and why.
- Project admins start the export in project settings. The download link works for 24 hours and only for you.
- On restore, Brainitive checks every file first and refuses a changed or incomplete archive. You choose the name, the key and who is who.
- Issues get new keys, and links, subtasks, the page tree and plan rows point to the new copies. Comments keep their original author.
Frequently asked questions
How do I import a Trello board into Brainitive?
In Trello, export the board as JSON from the board menu under Print, export and share. In Brainitive, open Import data from the account menu, choose Trello board, pick the project and upload the file. Check the preview, map the lists to columns and click Start import.
What comes over when I import from Jira?
Export your issues from Jira as a CSV with all fields. Brainitive creates a new board with statuses, types, priorities, epics and sub-tasks, labels, sprints, links between issues, story points and comments. Anything that couldn't come over is listed under Not imported, so nothing disappears silently.
Can I import my Notion pages?
Yes. Export a page or workspace from Notion as Markdown and CSV with subpages, and upload the ZIP. Pages and folders arrive as drafts with their links, images and files, and Notion databases become tables.
Do imports send notifications to my team?
No. Imports don't send a flood of notifications, and they don't send webhooks or run automations for each imported record. People in the export are only mapped to existing project members, and nobody is invited.
Can I move a project from Brainitive Cloud to my own server?
Yes. Export the project as a ZIP in its settings, then restore it on your self-hosted Brainitive with Import data and Brainitive project export. Brainitive is open source, so you can run it on your own server and keep your data there.
Is importing included in the free plan?
Yes. Every feature is in every plan, including Free, which allows up to 3 members and 5 projects per workspace. You can also download a copy of all your personal data as a ZIP from your profile at any time.
