Gantt charts, releases and workload in one project plan
Brainitive plans put the whole project on one timeline: phases, bars, milestones and dependencies, with rows linked to real issues on your boards. Releases track what ships in each version and turn finished work into release notes. Workload planning shows who has room in the coming weeks.
Gantt timelines
A Brainitive plan is a Gantt chart with a spreadsheet on the left and a timeline on the right that scroll together. You can sketch a plan freely, then link its rows to real issues so dates, status and assignees stay in sync.
- Start blank or from a template: Project plan, Product launch, Software release, Marketing campaign, Event planning or Workshop series, laid out from the current week.
- Draw bars by dragging, add milestones as diamonds, group rows with Tab to get summary bars, and connect bars with dependency arrows. Zoom by day, week, month or quarter.
- Type straight into cells, and copy and paste rows from Excel or Google Sheets. Export to Excel or CSV, import rows from CSV, or print to PDF.
- Add issues as rows or create issues from rows. Linked rows follow the issue, and moving a linked bar updates the issue's dates too.
- Plans save automatically, keep versions you can preview and restore, and can be shared with a client through a read-only link.
Releases & release notes
Releases let you plan fix versions for a project and see their progress live as issues get done. When a version ships, you publish its release notes to a public page and a public changelog.
- Each issue has a Fix version field. A release shows its issues as to do, in progress or done, with a progress bar, and is flagged as overdue when its release date has passed.
- When you release a version, you decide where unfinished issues go: to another unreleased version, or out of the release.
- Release notes start as a draft built from the release's done issues, grouped into Features, Fixes and Improvements, and you can edit it before publishing.
- Publishing gives the notes a public page and adds them to the project's Public changelog. Later edits stay private until you click Publish update, and Unpublish takes the page down.
- Project editors and admins manage releases. Board swimlanes can group cards by fix version.
Workload planning
Workload planning shows each person's weekly capacity next to the hours planned for them from real issues, so you can see who has room and who is overloaded. When someone is overloaded, you see by how many hours.
- Set a default number of hours per week for each person in the project, and override single weeks for leave or part-time weeks.
- Plan hours of an issue for a person in a specific week. Brainitive suggests the remaining estimate (estimate minus time already logged), and you decide.
- Look ahead 4, 6, 8 or 12 weeks. Each cell shows planned against available hours, and a Needs review list flags plans that no longer match the issue, for example when the estimate or assignee changed.
- An issue and its subtasks can't both be planned for the same weeks, so hours are never counted twice.
- Everyone in the project can see the workload. Project admins and workspace admins change capacity and plans. Workload covers one project at a time.
Frequently asked questions
Does Brainitive have Gantt charts?
Yes. Every project can have as many Gantt plans as you like, with bars, milestones, groups and dependencies on a timeline you can zoom from days to quarters. Rows can be linked to issues on your boards, so the plan and the board stay in sync.
Can I link a Gantt chart to my Kanban or Scrum board?
Yes. You can add existing issues as rows, create new issues from rows, or link a row to an issue later. Linked rows show the issue key and board status and update from the issue. Moving or resizing a linked bar changes the issue's dates, and the change appears in the issue's history.
Can I share a project plan with a client?
Yes. Click Share on the plan to create a read-only link that works without an account. The client sees the chart and can zoom and filter, but not edit. You can turn the link off or replace it at any time.
Can I publish release notes and a changelog?
Yes. Each release has a release notes draft built from its finished issues, which you can edit and then publish to a public page. Published notes also appear on the project's public changelog. Edits stay private until you publish an update.
Can I import a project plan from Excel?
Yes. You can import rows from a CSV file or paste them straight from Excel or Google Sheets, and choose to add them or replace all rows. You can also export a plan to Excel or CSV, or print it as a PDF.
Are Gantt plans and workload planning in the free plan?
Yes. Every feature is in every Brainitive Cloud plan, including Free, which allows up to 3 members and 5 projects per workspace. Gantt plans are unlimited in every plan. Brainitive is also open source, and you can self-host it.
